Inner Voices

iv

Inner Voices

Inner Voices is the creation of Adam Brierley, a new artist known for his creative and unique way of making music.

The forthcoming EP “Impact Statement” consists of four tracks; Poisoned town (part 1 impact statement), Virtual Cut (part 2 impact statement), Stay in the Light and Bend Your Mind.

Poisoned Town is a song about the effects of street violence on the victim’s family and friend. This song somehow reminds me of a classical rock piece from the 80′s.

Virtual Cut is an instrumental track, inspired by the music and words from Poisoned town.

The musical ensemble by a classical inspired piano and classical rock guitar riffs makes this music sound a bit epic and sad at the same time.

Stay in the Light

This song has some good bits of everything; the lyrics are genius and very well written. The part “I want to rip the dark chapter away, I wanted to make you feel tall” is uplifting and suit the music perfectly.

The opening is inspiring and makes you want to continue to listen to the song. And the theme through the song is unique; you can spot elements from psychedelic-new wave to alternative-acoustic (and gentle) guitar riffs and proper rock.

This, combined with some great and emotional vocal work, makes this to a real masterpiece.

“Stay in the Light” was nominated in five different categories in the final round of Effigy awards by ABC radio/MMI Fame Games, in January 2009. For: best overall song, best song in general rock category, best songwriting, best production and most popular song.

The final version (which will appear on the Inner Voices debut Album) reached the semi-finals of the UK songwriting competition in two categories in September 2009. The song will also appear on a CD, as a part of a project supporting children and adults suffering post traumatic stress disorder and depression.

Bend Your Mind

This is the kind of song you either like or dislike. I like it.

The first thing that hooked me was the lovely interaction between Adam Brierley and Ruth Jenkins, (a rising soprano star). The vocal work sounds uplifting in an almost melancholy song.

The tunes are simple and its floats through the song, still, it’s able to give you something new every time you listen to it.

“Bend your Mind” was semifinalist in the UK songwriter’s competition in September 2009. In the categories for rock and adult contemporary. It also received a finalist effigy awards on the ABC radio- MMI Fame Games 2009.

All four tracks are mastered by Fran Ashcroft, who previously has worked with Damon Albarn (Blur), in Abbey Road Studios. Stay in the Light and Bend Your Mind have both received regular airplay on several radio stations and music shows.

Bird Automatic

Bird Automatic

This music is almost melting. It’s bright pop, synthetic pop and retro put together in a perfect harmony. The mix is irreproachable, and it show you that these guys knows how to make great music.

The band is based in Sydney, and consisting of Chris Bradstreet (vocals/guitar), Chris Toole (guitar/vocals), Simon Hamblin (synth) and Henry Pajak (drums).

The latest (and first official) EP ‘Not Morning People’ was released in July 2009 and comprises of three good pop tracks.

The debut album will be released in early 2010.

About the Money

Deep Sea Arcade

Deep Sea Arcade

This band came literally out of the blue. And they are (or are going to be) one of the hottest new bands coming from out of the Sydney area. The lineup is: Nic Mckenzie (vocals), Nick Weaver (bass), Carlos Adura (drums), Tim Chamberlain (guitar) and Simon Relf (guitar).

If you have ever wanted to know what it would sound like if a modern The Kinks went psychedelic? This might be the answer.

They sound like all good things in music; the great bands from the 60’s (Kinks, Small Faces, Animals, Zombies etc) and that nice psychedelic sound combined with some killer guitar riffs and suitable drums.

This music is bright and dark at the same time, it has a unique sound of sea-breezed elements and this is the kind of music you don’t forget.

They are currently working on the debut album, due for a 2010 release.

Lonely in your arms

Blame Ringo

br!

Blame Ringo

Blame Ringo are a Brisbane based band, consisting of Pete Kilroy (guitar/vocals), Rosco Pearson (guitar/vocals), Jessiah Cocks (bass/vocals) and Tony Garrett (drums/vocals).

They are formerly known as ‘Goodnight Vienna’, but they had to change the band name when they unfortunately were named after Ringo Starr’s 4th studio album. Something that gave the band a mission; to blame Ringo ..for everything.

Blame Ringo released the debut album ‘Lucky number 9’ in 2009. Along with the debut single ‘Garble Arch’. The music video was filmed outside Abbey Road and it was one of the most viewed videos on YouTube the week it was released. It reached 50,000 views within the first 24 hrs.

This music is uplifting and possible one of the brightest debut albums coming out in 2009. They have some 60’s influences, well, 60’s pop to be precise. And the lyrics are original, developed and suit the music perfectly.

You hear the mix of new pop, retro pop, the good folk sound ..with flute and the last touch of some good guitar riffs.

Garble Arch

Everything Everything

Everything Everything

Everything Everything is a Manchester based band, formed by Mike (drums, vocals), Jonathan (vocals, guitar), Jeremy (bass, vocals, keys) and Alex (guitar, vocals).

Everything Everything is inspired by everything and everyone, something that makes this music forward thinking, new, unique and “unconventional pop at its bravest and best”.

This stuff is inventive, creative and exciting. And can also be qualified as so-called future music (oh yeah, the new wave-wave are returning!)
Every song is different and has its own unique and unexpected twist and turn through the song. The vocals are unpredictable and weird, but then again, some ordinary vocals wouldn’t suit this music.

Everything Everything has so far released two singles; Suffragette Suffragette and Photoshop Handsome. The current single is MY KZ UR BF and its ‘flip’ NASA Is On Your Side.

Photoshop Handsome

Mean Poppa Lean

mpl

Mean Poppa Lean

Mean Poppa Lean (MPL) is a funky band based on Brighton, and consisting of Christian Jennings Barnes (vocals), C-Dogg (guitar), Danny Bass (bass) and Grills (drums).  And apparently The Horny Brassholes on trumpet and trombone.

This music is what you can call funny funk. The music is eternal steady and creative active. So you don’t have to worry about having a boring moment.

This is perfect music for those who like funky ska combined with some funny and honest lyrics. The generous doses of soulful vocals are one of the main reasons why this music is so great.

Another great reason is the last single ‘Sheryl Crow’. It has all of the typical elements of Mean Poppa Lean; the funny and quirky lyrics, a good and steady funk dub rhythm and some really cool background musical noises.

The Ray Summers

trs

The Ray Summers

The Ray Summers was formed in Falkirk, UK (2008) by Lee Burgoyne (drums), Jackson (guitar), Dougie (guitar), Andy Ure (Lead vocals), Billy Kay (bass & vocals) and Davey (keyboard, guitar & vocals).

They have received major press interest in 2008 and supported bands like Sergeant, Alabama 3, Alphabeat, Paulo Nutini, Idlewild and The Automatic. As well as having their own sellout headline King Tuts gig.

This is the kind of music you easily can be found of. This is funky, steady and psychical rhythm garage ska punk of a creative intention. They also have a refreshing 60′s sound.

Boots and Cats have a very interesting mix of psychedelic 60′s soul/rock. It’s almost seems like some sort of unusual collection of left-over’s they didn’t use on the other songs, which is pretty cool. And maybe also the typical sound of The Ray Summers.

Narcotic Girl

The Gadsdens

tg

The Gadsdens

The Gadsdens are Jody Gadsden (vocals), Simon Neilson (piano), David Roman (drums), Barney JC (guitar) and Jihea Oh (bass). A absolutely gorgeous pop band, based in London.

This band is what you can call unique. It has some beautiful tones, and unbelievable and unforgettable vocals.  And it sound a bit of everything, like; pop, modern pop to be precise. And pop with a touch of jazz, soul and ..pop rock!

All the songs are written by Jody Gadsden and Simon Neilson, and can be heard on Last.fm.

The first official single, The Sailor Song, is close to perfection. The vocals are irreproachable and it’s almost feels like you’re floating through the song. The peaceful and at the same time intensive rhythms makes this to a memorable and deep song.

The Gadsdens did a great cover of Beyonce’s Halo, a cover worth to check out!

Music from a Bedroom : Microfiches & Capulets

m

Microfiches

Microfiches are Siddie (vocals/guitar), Sloth (bass), Rad (drums) and Surd (guitar/vocals/sampling). And they are an alternative/shoegaze band from Pune, India.

This is Indian madness, and spiritual noise of another dimension.

They make noise, systematic noise. Combined with some vocals that suits the music perfectly. They have some indescribable outburst from time to time, but still, it’s brilliant.
Although, it can be difficult to really get this music. But if you get it – it’s stuck. And can probably be good music to have as a background noise while you daydream.

Capulets

Capulets are a two-piece experimental rock band from the north of London, and they are Luke Hebblethwaite (vocals, guitar) and Pietro DeSantis (keyboards, backing vocals).

The best thing about this music is how good the music is all over. The lyrics are very well written, and the way the music is mixed and produced makes it sounds like inventive and good psychedelic cowboy rock from the 80′s.

The music doesn’t get boring, as it is has a genius mix of psychedelic and alternative rock, mixed with some good  experimental rock.

Remarkable covers

From time to time I stumble upon a cover done by an unsigned artist. Some of them are good, and some of them are ..bad. Here’s an ever-growing list of some great and remarkable covers, covered by unsigned artists and bands.

Bobby Flynn – The Lovecats
(The Cure – 1983)

Cool bass line, the typical “Cure sound” – and the add of something personal.

The Home GuardFor no One
(The Beatles – 1966)

The Beatles with a great touch of The Home Guard. A neutral and fabulous cover of an all-time-classic.

The TreesThe sounds of Silence
(Simon & Garfunkel – 1965)

This is the one and only psychedelic-a-like cover of this (again) all-time-classic.

Ten Foot Nun -  The Living Daylight
(A-ha – 1987)

Pop-funk-Ten Foot Nun!
A messy and at the same time genius cover of a James Bond soundtrack.

Ferraby LionheartMan on the Moon
(R.E.M  – 1992)

Ferraby Lionheart does a “Ferraby acoustic” and emotional cover out of this R.E.M classic.

Full Scream Ahead – Poker Face
(Lady GaGa  – 2008)

The typical sound of Full Scream Ahead is uplifting and energetic power pop/rock. Just like this cover, they can’t do wrong.

The GadsdensHalo
(Beyoncé Knowles – 2009)

The vocals are great! And the way they’ve used the piano in this song, makes this a very good cover.

Kitty Hudson – Wild Horses
(Rolling Stones – 1971)

A gentle acoustic and brilliant cover of this classic.

Way TangentKill the Director
(The Wombats – 2007)

A great “live take” cover of the Wombats’ 2nd single.

Sliimy – Pass the Dutchie
(Musical Youth – 1982)

Did someone say reggae? Or funk?

Mark HoleMy Manic and I
(Laura Marling – 2007)

This is the typical sound of Mark Hole. The piano, his great voice and his own interpretation of the song makes this to a great cover.

Somastate

ss

Somastate

Somastate was formed in 2008 in Calgary, Canada. And have become one of the most talked about, freshly-unique hard rock bands in underground music.
They are; Jay Brazeau (vocals), Nathan Navetto (drums), Taylor Johnson (guitar), Caleb Goff (guitar) and Corey Adams (bass).

The debut EP “Reversals EP” was released in January 2008 and consists of eight strong tracks; it was nominated and won the competition for “Best Hard Rock Album of the Year” (2009).

And the single “Wrapped Around a Bullet”, finished second place in the category for “Best Hard Rock Song”.

Somastate has spent 2009 touring around in Canada, sponsored by JagerMusic. Between recording the next EP “The Physics Demos”, for a November release, and working on the material for the debut album, due for a 2010 release.

The typical sound of Somastate is immense and steady metal rock. The quality is irreproachable and it got a killer bass line and some energetic drums that keeps the music alive.
One of the greatest things about this music is how the songs and the EP itself are build up.

The first track, ”Wrapped Around a Bullet”, starts up as a strong piece of work. The bass line and the drums are thrilling and keeps the song alive.

“Sing Gloria” is a real hard rock song. Enough said. It’s good. And it keep a great energy through the song.

“To return” is a perfect way to end this EP. It doesn’t sounds like the other songs to Somastate, but it still got the sound of Somastate.

“White Flag” is one of the tracks from the upcoming EP. And it shows you how the band has grown since their first release. It’s still intense and it’s the same quality – only better. And it gives you a perfect first impression of the new release.

Album recommendation : The Home Guard – ‘Forlorn Hope and Glory’

Album recommendation : The Home Guard – ‘Forlorn Hope and Glory’

The typical sound of The Home Guard is unique and uplifting. And can be described as an indescribable mix of so many genres of music, so perfectly combined. Like; rock, progressive rock, Brit pop, folk, new wave and glam. This is what makes the The Home Guard “Homeguardish”..

The debut album A Head of Steam was a good album where they mainly sounded like Sparks, Elvis Costello, Roxy Music and Jethro Tull.

This album is a big step in the right direction from the first album, as the lyrics and songwriting skills has been improved. The same can definitely been said about the production, mixing and the quality of the music all over.

The intro has been inspired by the opening track, “Procession”, from Queen’s second album. The heartbeat sound followed by a progressive rock piece Year Zero, with some Jethro Tull influences, makes this to a good first impression of a follower album.

The next track, Sweating Blood is a typical indie rock piece (but still a song to take a notice of.) It got some good rhythms through the song and some synth beats that keeps it alive.

One For The Road show you a more happy Brit pop/rock piece of the Home Guard, the consistent bass through the song, combined with some heavily visits of a certain piano, makes this a strong track, even though the vocals aren’t among the best.

The next upbeat track is Soldier On, a great instrumental piece of work. With some great bass plays in the middle of the song, might make this the best mixed track on the album.

The last track; This is a classic and progressive ballade. Other People show you that the music to The Home Guard is more than just an average indie rock band. This is epic, and a genuine masterpiece.

The Fancy Toys

ft

The Fancy Toys

Take two guys with some toys, a monkey (the mascot – every band need a mascot, right?) and a good dose of some French influences. And result is imaginary toy music. Or something like that.

That, mixed with the strange collection of acoustic jazz guitars, glockenspiel, ukulele, stylophone, cajon, drums, shakers, glockenspiel, melodion and the famous shoe-tambo. Gives you a playful soundtrack of a French love movie, and so much more.

There’s hard to explain this music as don’t fit in to any genre. But, there are still some genres you can recognize, like thoughtful and happy retro pop/jazz.

The duo of James Duncan and Mickaël Téo has been writing, playing both live and in the studio, with many artists for a long time. And they have performed at some of the most prestigious venues, all over the world.

The Fancy Toys was one of the finalists of Metro’s new best band competition in 2008.

Josh Weller

jw

Josh Weller

The story of Josh Weller’s solo performance began when he for about two years ago graduated from Leeds College of Music, where he learned to play guitar, keyboards and saxophone.

His music can easily be describes as modern, original, good old fashioned big beat witty pop. His musical inspirations come from “old musicians”, like Randy Newman and the 1940′s Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin and Chet Baker.
And he has earlier been describes as “a collision between Elvis Costello & Randy Newman in winklepickers”.

That description, combined with some humorous, quirky and very well written lyrics, makes this music interesting and inventive.

Jointpop

jp

Jointpop

Jointpop are a rock band, formed in Trinidad and Tobago (1996) by Gary Hector (vocals, guitars), Damon Homer (guitars), Dion Camacho (drums), Jerome Girdharrie (bass) and Phil Hill (keys/synth).

The name Jointpop (Join pop) reflects their music and where they’ve taken their influences; like The Clash, Velvet, Neil Young, Bob Marley, The Mighty Sparrow, U2, Beatles and Sex Pistols combined with some Dylanesque lyrics..

This music is what you can call personal and well developed Caribbean rock music. The lyrics are deep, emotional and extremely clever. That, combined with the unusual mix of Caribbean rock, British pop/rock and ever inventive creativity, makes this music modern and never out-of-date.

Some notable tracks are “The Irony of it all”, “The spelling bee”, “Monday morning love situation” and “Mystery” (all taken from the last album ‘The January Transfer Window’ (2007) and the last double  single “Please don’t tell my Inlaws (I’m and Outlaw)”/”Camden Ketchup” (2009).

Isolated Atoms

ia

Isolated Atoms

Isolated Atoms was formed in early 2008 by Leon Ashman (vocals), Mark Neat (guitar), David Davies (synth) and Yang (drums).

This Black Country, West Midland based band was already tipped in 2008 to be one of the hottest and most professional undiscovered bands in the UK in 2009.

There’s just something about this music. The rare and at the same time suitable mix of psychedelic rock, electronic alternative rock makes this personal and memorable. The vocals are irreproachable and suit this music perfectly, as it almost sound like some sort of rock opera.

The name Isolated Atoms reflects their music, as it’s intense, moody and dark (Isolated) while being energetic and explosive (Atoms).

Floors and Walls

fw

Floors and Walls

Floors and Walls is another band from the prestigious BIMM (Brighton Institute of Modern Music) – the first band was Way Tangent.

Floors and Walls are Alex Adams (vocals), Dom Mcnulty (guitar/BV’S), Ian Booth (bass) and Adam Shamp (drums). They have played together since 2006, and released the debut album “What can we do today” from South Coast Records (BIMM) in 2007.

The musical skills are irreproachable and give you a rare and original combination of rock/punk/pop/funk, mixed with the typical sound of what you hear when the devil children of Mike Skinner and Kate Nash go together to make some music.

Uplifting and urban creativity can easily be some good tags to describe this music.

This; mixed up (or down) with some lyrics. Mostly about nightlife, one-night-stands, sluts, ex-girlfriends, and other notable happenings they’ve experience in their lives.

The Stand

Paper Heroes

Paper Heroes

Paper Heroes was formed in early 2008 when singer, Matt Weedon sent his song, “Jenny Jones”, into a SkinsLife competition. “It was the first ever song posted on the Skins Life site that made it into the show” – “we all love this track” wrote Skinslife and it was played on episode 9 of Skins in April with the band picking up prestigious Skins Party gigs in various cities around in England.

The band consisting of Matt Weedon (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Luke Boxall (bass and backing vocals), James Tomlinson (lead guitar, backing vocals) and Kieran Elms (drums and backing vocals).

In January Paper Heroes played a 3 week UK headlining tour with Fran and Josh from MTV’s ‘Living on the Edge.’ They have played with bands such as Pete and the Pirates, The Cheek, Ladyhawke, Sneaky Sound System, Killer Kelar and Pnau.

This music is personal, creative and sum up some of the elements from some of the other indie bands you can hear nowadays. They have the rhythm to Scouting for girls, the Kooks and Air Traffic, and they are still able to make their music their own.

This band can be able to be one of the bands to bring a new style of Brit rock to the new decade. This music is incredible catchy and memorable in the greatest way.

Brendan’s band

bb

Brendan’s band

Brendan’s band are Brendan McCreary (vox, guitars), Steve Bartek (guitars), Jon Schwarz (bass) and Bryan Taylor (drums).

They play a good mix of some of the greatest artists out there, like; Queen, David Bowie, Elvis Presley with a add of newer pop rock to make this sound complete. The result is an inventive and modern pop/rock sound. And this is how it sound when someone play Mika’s interpretation of Queen.

A good example of the modern pop/rock combination can be heard in “Light Years”.

“Do it twice” and “lets get hitched” show you a funkier Brendan’s band.

A lot like Eskimos

A lot like Eskimos

A lot like Eskimos are a four piece power rock band, from Leeds. And consist of Rich Wells (vocals), Dave Richie (bass), John (guitar) and Kez McDizzle (drums).

They started out as a two piece band in 2007, where they used acoustic guitars and a drum machine. They began to play at some venues and have played a lot of gigs since. This is how they build up the solid fan base they have today.

They’re known for having a punky and explosive style. The music is rough, creative and they have a  touch of modern rock. Their influences are taken from their own personal experience. And the result is a great mix of punk rock, dance and experimental pop.

The Resistors

tr

The Resistors

The Resistors started up in 2006/2007 when Karl Sunderland (vocals) and Ed Coonagh (guitar) began to write and recording the “Project the Resistors” in their home studio in West London.

Geoff Laurens (bass) and Seb Sterburg (drums) joined the band when they decided to take the band live. They both came from the same band “Elviss”.

The band was now complete, they have entered the UK music scene and they are about to release the debut album – some time in 2009.

You can’t start listening to this band without thinking “oh, another rock band from London”. They are one of this rock bands from London and ..well this band is phenomenal. They have this incredible cool bass line, kick ass drums and some great lyrics. It’s more than recommendable.

“Crash” is a pure brilliant alternative rock tune, and it’s the best they have delivered, so far. Its starts up like an easy, but somehow advanced song and end up as a psychedelic chaos under control!

Aaron King

Aaron King

Aaron King are a Brighton-based four piece centered around pianist and song-writer Aaron King.

The first EP (The Granary) was recorded over a 48 hours session in Granary Studio, with help from the producer Tim Rowkins. While the second EP came out in the summer 2009.

Aaron King has a jazz background, something you can hear through the music. The jazzy piano solo get mixed with a rough bass in the song “aftermath”, something that gives this song the honor of being the only rock driven song from the first EP.

All the songs are mainly piano driven, with a nice combination of some catchy rhythms from a drum and makes this music sounds bright and uplifting. The sound of this music have a little bit of everything; its acoustic feasible, a vocal that suit the music perfectly, and the lyrics are genius and well written.

You don’t know what it is

Airship

Airship

Airship are one of the greatest new rock bands coming out of Manchester, and the complete lineup includes; Elliott Williams (vocals, guitar and keys), Marcus Wheeldon (guitar and vocals), Tom Dyball (bass and vocals) and Steven Griffiths (drums and vocals).

They started originality up as a two piece band in 2004, then existing of Elliott and Tom. Marcus joined the band when they needed someone to play the keyboard, when Elliott incidentally saw a picture of Marcus along with his keyboard. The last member, Steven came in when he met the band when he was playing with his old band.

Airship released their first EP “Spirit of the Beehive” in December 2008.  “Spirit of the Beehive” consist of four tracks; Woodworm, Algebra, This is Hell and So after all.

The first track, Woodworm, is a beautiful piece of work. It start up as a mellow and emotional piano track with some interesting and lovely vocals. And burst into a soft rock tune.

This band carry the influences from a good-times A-ha, Joy Division and a newer Radiohead. The music is uplifting, bright and pure brilliant. The lyrics are brilliant and very well written. The music is good when you listen to it for the first time, and it just getting better for every time you listens to it without being a “grow-on-you-band”.

This is Hell has a very unique sound. The mix of a Pixies a like new wave band and a newer modern rock band, makes this track to a strong track on a debut EP.

The Velvetines

tv

The Velvetines

The Velvetines are a Manchester based alternative/folk rock band, previously known as Youth Honey. They consist of Ricky Damiani (vocals, acoustic guitar), Chay Edwards (guitar), Pete Birds (bass), Jepp Berry (drums) and Lucy Dowling (backing vocals).

I can’t avoid thinking of The Zutons while listening to this music. They mix so many genres so good – like – punk, garage punk, rock, surf rock, folk and some harmonic acoustic tones.

You can hear this irreproachable composition in a garage punk/rock “Got what you came for” – this is how they sound almost like the Zutons.

Two other great songs are the more rock-a-like “Your last Mistake” and “7 Sins”. The mix of an almost heavy bass and acoustic/rock guitar riff make those songs sound creative and professional.

Babtism song is definitely one of the finest acoustic songs I’ve heard in a long time. It reminds me of one of the acoustic songs to Neil Young, and the wonderful mix of a male vocalist and a female back singer makes this song a true masterpiece.

The Standards

ts

The Standards

The Standards are a pop (and so much more..) band based in London, and consist of Neil Winspear (vocal, guitar), Mark Ness (vocals, bass) and Scott Pragnell (vocals, drums).

They have played with such bands as The Wombats, Sparks, The Cribs and Friendly Fires – to name a few.

This music is not standard, (I know.. someone must have mentioned this before me..)

This music is modern pop mixed with a good old-fashioned sound from the 60’s, some jazz and they sound a bit like a typical modern British indie rock band. They also have that rare mix of glam folk.

Oh, and they sound a bit like Neil Innes, David Bowie, Elvis Costello and they have some country influences, almost at the same time.

The best thing about this music (and band) is how they make the music sound fun and inventive. They have made this music their own and you can’t find another band that has this bands influences and how they have choose to use them.

The Standards – definitely not standard, and absolutely a band to watch.

Needless to Say

Music from a Bedroom : Fashoda Crisis & Terry Springford

Music from a Bedroom:
Fashoda Crisis | Terry Springford

fc-horz

Fashoda Crisis

Fashoda Crisis was formed in Southend, Essex (2005) by Matt Smith (bass, vocals), Simon Smith (drums) and Sim Ralph (guitar, vocals). This band is fiercely independent and creates rock/alternative band sound like a “combination of modern punk, hardcore and stoner rock, but with the songs structured and instruments arranged in a relatively poppy style.”

They sound like a mix of Faith No More, Guano Apes and some half-way-through-screaming-sort-of-thing-band. This music can be hard to get, the lyrics are quirky but they never cross the invisible line of being unlikely silly. This is where this music break through and this genius psychotic chaos appear.

They have so far released Mischief Of One Kind And Another EP.

Terry Springford

Terry Springford comes from Melbourne, Australia. And he’s known for his gentle acoustic music combined with his melancholy and lovely lyrics and his characteristic voice.

Terry Springford was a part of a duo (Haven) in the late 90’s, along with Daniella Hubbard. He performed later solo at several folk clubs in the Dandenong Ranges area. In these days, he rarely performs live. Instead he records his music in his home studio and releases it on the internet.

He has released two EP’s so far (Faith & Trust) and is currently working on his third (Tiny Scars).

The Delta Fiasco

tdff

The Delta Fiasco

The Delta Fiasco is not a fiasco. (I just had to type that!)

This Liverpool based pop/new-wave band consist of Simon Hilton (drums, percussion), Nathan Walczak (vocals, guitars, synthesizers) and Nik Bentley (guitars, synthesizers, laptops, programming).

The Delta Fiasco released their debut EP in May 2009. The Dreameater EP contains six strong masterpieces; Uh-oh, Easy, Beware the Flatterer, White Rat, Death Letters and Paperhouse.

A flock of seagulls meet Franz Ferdinand and hook up with chaotic guitar, some synthesizers, laptop-generated bleeps and some outer space sounds.
I don’t know, but they sound a bit like when a wannabe emo tries to make a disco in his bedroom, and it works – surprisingly well.

The Delta  Fiasco make chaotic quality music, and it’s a rare and indescribable discovery.

Paperhouse

Stagecoach

Stagecoach

Stagecoach are a pop/grunge band from the darkest of Surrey. They started out as a two-piece band and added a new member every year until they felt they were a band. The members are Luke Barham (vocals, six strings), Nick Tanner (six strings), John Harrington (four strings), Matt Emery (drums, vocals) and Tom Lewis (eight strings, vocals).

Stagecoach started as a band because “we were no good at sports and had no other hobbies apart from skimming stones”. Not a bad idea – this music is definitely solid. And channel 4 have already tipped them as a “band to watch”.

They have so far released a 7-track EP School Day E.P, (full track/free download on Last.fm). The songs are usually about hot dogs, girls and cars. And school stuff!
The lyrics are clever and well written.

No ded enz is a great rock song. The best rock song you’ll hear from this band’s first EP. The guitar through the song combined with a steady drum mix represent this guys’ music perfectly – you want to hear more.
Midnight Circus isn’t so bad either, in fact, this is a typically quality happy-indie song. The guitar riff are strong and the whole song is decent done.

Hang that Head

Planet of the Stereos

pots

Planet Of The Stereos

Planet of the stereos are an award winning subversive pop/rock band from Sydney, Australia. The members of the band are Chris Collins (vocals, guitar), Mitch Serena (keys), Daniel Hunt (drums), Joel Geering (bass) and Marcüs Beaumont (guitar).

This music is that kind of music you easily can be fond of. It’s catchy, cool, and inventive. And it makes you happy.

Wasting time is a perfect piece of work. The rhythm, the chord changes and the arrangement in this song are good, and give you a positive sample of how the debut album would sounds like.

After all starts like a prog song and goes over to a classic Planet of the stereos rock/pop song. Something that makes this song creative and inventive.

Planets of the stereos has so far released three EPs, Delicate girl (2007), Before the storm (acoustic set) and a third EP Coming 2009. They’ve spent several months in Canada recording the debut album (due for a 2009 release), along with Grammy-winning producer Mike Shipley.

Heritage Centre

Heritage Centre was formed in Dublin & Stoneybatter for about two years ago, and the complete lineup lincludes Roge, Ciaran, Liam, Stephen and Conal.

Heritage Centre has received airplay both national and international, and has been compared to the likes of Blur, Weezer and The Shins.

The sound of Heritage Centre can be described as modern energetic pop/rock. All the songs are catchy and well produced.

The debut EP “The City, The Tree and The Fox” was released in February 2009. The first single (Losing Touch, released in December 2008) is a typical good indie rock single.

You Are Something, Death By Science and Stars are three great songs musically. The production and the lyrics makes it all sound very professional and show you the very best of Heritage Centre.

Somehow I Feel Cheated has the best arrangement. Your Leaders Are Dead sounds like a mess, but it’s a good song musically.

Whatever & I Will Protect you are the two first singles from the forthcoming EP (releasing October 2009) and was released on 8th of May.

I will protect you
