The Resistors

The Resistors

The Resistors started up in 2006/2007 when Karl Sunderland (vocals) and Ed Coonagh (guitar) began to write and recording the “Project the Resistors” in their home studio in West London.

Geoff Laurens (bass) and Seb Sterburg (drums) joined the band when they decided to take the band live. They both came from the same band “Elviss”.

The band was now complete, they have entered the UK music scene and they are about to release the debut album – some time in 2009.

You can’t start listening to this band without thinking “oh, another rock band from London”. They are one of this rock bands from London and ..well this band is phenomenal. They have this incredible cool bass line, kick ass drums and some great lyrics. It’s more than recommendable.

“Crash” is a pure brilliant alternative rock tune, and it’s the best they have delivered, so far. Its starts up like an easy, but somehow advanced song and end up as a psychedelic chaos under control!

Airship

Airship

Airship are one of the greatest new rock bands coming out of Manchester, and the complete lineup includes; Elliott Williams (vocals, guitar and keys), Marcus Wheeldon (guitar and vocals), Tom Dyball (bass and vocals) and Steven Griffiths (drums and vocals).

They started originality up as a two piece band in 2004, then existing of Elliott and Tom. Marcus joined the band when they needed someone to play the keyboard, when Elliott incidentally saw a picture of Marcus along with his keyboard. The last member, Steven came in when he met the band when he was playing with his old band.

Airship released their first EP “Spirit of the Beehive” in December 2008.  “Spirit of the Beehive” consist of four tracks; Woodworm, Algebra, This is Hell and So after all.

The first track, Woodworm, is a beautiful piece of work. It start up as a mellow and emotional piano track with some interesting and lovely vocals. And burst into a soft rock tune.

This band carry the influences from a good-times A-ha, Joy Division and a newer Radiohead. The music is uplifting, bright and pure brilliant. The lyrics are brilliant and very well written. The music is good when you listen to it for the first time, and it just getting better for every time you listens to it without being a “grow-on-you-band”.

This is Hell has a very unique sound. The mix of a Pixies a like new wave band and a newer modern rock band, makes this track to a strong track on a debut EP.

Rook and the Ravens

Rook and the Ravens

Rook and the Ravens are a indie rock band from (the hills on the east side of) Manchester and consist of Joe Fay (vocals, guitars), James Fay (vocals, guitars), Tom Cartledge (vocals, keys), Dave Brodie (bass, harps, backing vocals) and John B. Major (drums, backing vocals.)

They have so far released one EP, Rook and the Ravens (2007), and an album (Sixteen Holes in Sixteen Souls) in 2009..

The sound of Rook and the Ravens is what you hear when the sound of a typical indie Brit band get mixed up with the sound of a southern American rock band from the late 60’s. Something that makes this music unique and inventive.

The mix of characteristic rock vocals and some irreproachable music skills puts this music in a category of something you rarely hear in these days. The Rook and the Ravens can easily be a band to bring back the real sound of classic rock’n roll, mixed together with the sound of a typical indie rock band.

Heritage Centre

Heritage Centre

Heritage Centre was formed in Dublin & Stoneybatter for about two years ago, and the complete lineup lincludes Roge, Ciaran, Liam, Stephen and Conal.

Heritage Centre has received airplay both national and international, and has been compared to the likes of Blur, Weezer and The Shins.

The sound of Heritage Centre can be described as modern energetic pop/rock. All the songs are catchy and well produced.

The debut EP “The City, The Tree and The Fox” was released in February 2009. The first single (Losing Touch, released in December 2008) is a typical good indie rock single.

You Are Something, Death By Science and Stars are three great songs musically. The production and the lyrics makes it all sound very professional and show you the very best of Heritage Centre.

Somehow I Feel Cheated has the best arrangement. Your Leaders Are Dead sounds like a mess, but it’s a good song musically.

Whatever & I Will Protect you are the two first singles from the forthcoming EP (releasing October 2009) and was released on 8th of May.

I will protect you

The Foxes

The Foxes

Fifteen years after the comedian Bill Hicks passed away, The Foxes dedicates their upcoming single “Bill Hicks” to him – just for him. It’s just too bad he can’t listen to it himself. I can only think of one other song about a dead comedian, which is Man on the moon by REM. You have all heard it.

This 02:18 rock songs are decent. The musical skills are great! The drums make the song and the guitar riffs are amazing. The intro to this song can remind you of the intro to Cheap Trick’s I want you to want me. This single will be released on March 16th.

The Foxes are a four-piece London based rock and indie band, formed in 2006 by Nigel Thomas, Jonathan Bretman, Alex Douglas and Stephen Wilde. They released their first EP Lover, Killer in August 2007 and the first single Trauma Town in October 2007. They received good reviews and Trauma Town even reach the UK indie chart list at number 9!

The Foxes have been cited as having: “the talent and confidence to make a huge impact on the UK music scene” – NME

The Chronicles of Israfel

The Chronicles of Israfel

This is epic! And one of the hidden treasures out there.

So, what is so incredible about this music? Basically; the musical skills are really good, especially the guitar work. And of course the best thing – the first album “Starborn, Tome 1″ are a concept album, something of the coolest thing you can hear in this world of music! And how they complete the whole idea of this concept album is fantastic! You will never get tired of listen to it.

Starborn, Tome 1 is about Israfel’s search for a new home and self discovery of his superior inner design.

The Chronicles of Israfel are a Montreal, Canada based metal/rock/progressive band, formed in 2007 by former guitar player of Pulse Ultra and bass player in Scars of Broadway, Dominic Cifarelli and Vincent Cifarelli, Americo Antonucci and Joey Bastone.

The Home Guard

The Home Guard is Dan and Chris, a duo based in Peterborough, UK.

They aim to “design songs both musically and lyrically to keep the listener thinking, whilst retaining a slightly quirky edge”. And that is exactly what they do. The lyrics are quirky and very well written. And the musical and production skills are even better.

They’ve released two albums so far; ‘A head of Steam’ (2007) and ‘Forlorn hope and Glory’ (2009). A third one are set to be released sometime in the near future!

This is the kind of music which is hard to pigeonhole as it’s inspired by so many genres and musicians. This music is like an indescribable mix of so many genres of music, so perfectly combined.
