Emanuel and the Fear is a modern big band centered around Emanuel Ayvas.

They are inspired by everything and everyone, from Beethoven – to Final Fantasy. Have released one self-titled EP (2009) and the debut album “Listen” was released in early 2010. They’re are most likely one of the most optimistic, exciting and most promising new acts that debuted last year.

The sound of Emanuel and the Fear is unique. They don’t fit in a specific genre as they can sound like everything from a piano pop to modern soft folk.

Or, they’re like a modern Polyphonic Spree focusing on orchestral pop/rock, upbeat epicness and eleven people’s interpretation of great music.

April Smith and the Great Picture Show

April Smith and the Great Picture Show

April Smith was born and grew up in Toms River, New Jersey with a mum that adored Queen and a father that feed her with Elvis Presley, Tom Waits and Kinky Friedman through his old 8-track tape player.

April herself crashed her older siblings’ practice sessions, talent shows and parties with her outstanding living room shows and stole every show she could ever take part of.

She is now living in Brooklyn, New York and have her own band, consisting of Stevens (bass), Marty (lead guitar), Mike (keys) and Nick (drums).

April and her band have played on various venues all over town, where she’s known for her confidence and playful performances.
They have also been branded by Rolling Stone of “30 Bands to Watch” at Lollapalooza.

The debut album “Songs for a Sinking Ship” was released in January 2010.

April Smith is extremely talented, and is like a modern edition of one of the highly respected ladies that sang jazz alongside a piano in the olden days.

The lyrics are quirky, witty and and ..wise. That goes very well to its indescribable and rockabilly ambiance.

fun.

fun.

Fun is a New York based band, consisting of Nate Ruess (the Format), Andrew Dost (Anathallo) and Jack Antonoff (Steel Train). The band was formed in 2008, when the the bands they originally was members of broke up.

The debut album was recorded in 2008/2009 and produced by Roger Joseph Manning, Jr, and released in August 2009.

This music is fun, just like the name says. It’s a straightforward a power pop band, with some nice influences from The Jellyfish, (former member Manning produced the album) and some ska and violin pop.

Fun also have some guest appearances from singer Anna Waronker, (in the song “Be Calm”). Something that ironically doesn’t really calm the whole power pop image down. The opening track gives a good first impression from the “new band”.

“Light a Roman candle with me” is the closest you can come to romantic melody from Fun. The nice little mix of piano rock/pop and, some 70 soft rock makes this to a stand out, while it still the keep the typical Fun style.

Kevin McWha Steele

Kevin McWha Steele

Kevin McWha Steele is a talented New York based singer/songwriter. He has previously been studying art and music for four years in France, and he finds his inspiration through singing, writing poetry/lyrics and traveling.

His dance EP project “The Arrowtooth Waltz” was officially released the second week of December 2009, and have already received good feedback.

“The Arrowtooth Waltz” consists of four brilliant and total different tracks, with elements from the likes of Billy Ocean, David Bowie, Anthony Keidis, Perry Como and Matt Monro.

You can hear energetic and fresh music, with a mix of experimental rock, waltz, disco soul, alternative beat, some funky reggae and a modern jazz bit.

The Killer Disco features a guest appearance with singer Stephanie McKay. And it’s like a funky gothic-a-like Billy Ocean sort of thing. It is the most funk-up track with some polished disco jam influences.

Love In June is a jazz retro modern chill out piece of work. It can remind you of a soundtrack of an old French love story. And it was chosen as American Idol Underground’s #1 song in the jazz category.

A 14 track LP is set to be released in April 2010.

Reuben Butchart

Reuben Butchart

Reuben Butchart is a singer-songwriter from San Fransisco, now living in New York. His voice is pure and atmospheric, and he has previously been compared with Chet Baker and Stevie Wonder.

He have released two albums “Golden Boy”, “Dusk” and one EP “Come & Play”.

He is currently mixing his third album.

This music is absolutely adorable. The fascinating and genius lyrics, with a gentle and well produced mixture of soulful and lovely vocals. And some pop and jazz-based instruments make this music easy to like and easy to fell in love with if you’re looking for dreamy and good old-fashioned soul pop.

Come and Play is both a good musical experience and a very well written song. You can hear everything from an easy and at the same time intense piano line and a little love story.

All There is to Tell makes the good old-fashioned part of this music. And the musical interaction with Antony Hegarty makes this to a genuine masterpiece.
