We Grow Up

We Grow Up

Some music is just adorable. Like this, Adelaide, South Australia based indie pop band, We Grow Up.

They are Jonathan Mortimer (vocals, guitar & keyboard), Anthony Golding (vocals, Guitar, keyboard & bass), Tom Mackay (drums) and Walter Marsh (guitar).

Their musical influences comes from Elliot Smith, The Beatles and various folk pop artists. They’ve been gigging around in South Australia since the formation on 2007.

And have so far released their self titled debut album (2007), Night Kitchen (2008) and the third album (Kids on Love) is set to be released in early 2010.

Celia carries the influences of being a The Beatles and late 90’s folk inspired track. With some modern folk pop vibes.

Wrote it all down in my Diary is a typical good feeling song, it’s adorable. And it almost makes you wanna go over to the situation where you want to sit on a pink cloud and sing.

The Hundreds and Thousands

The Hundreds and Thousands

The Hundreds and Thousands sounds like “three solid musicians who have played together a lot.”

They are Ian LeFeuvre, Peter von Althen and Maury Lafoy, all former members of power-pop outfit Starling. And they are based in Toronto, Canada.

The self-titled debut album was released last year, and consists of everything you can ever think of from the world of new wave and pop rock. And they do sound a bit like a rocked up version of Muse, and a modern Supergrass.

This music is extremely energetic, upbeat and has an indescribable mix of power rock, alternative rock and a type of rock ‘n’ roll that would make an old gramophone explode. And cry for sugar.

Little Bushman

Little Bushman

Little Bushman is a four-piece psychedelic classical rock band, based in Wellington, New Zealand. And they are Warren Maxwell, Rick Cranson, Joe Callwood and Tom Callwood.
Little Bushman has so far released “Pendulum” and “The Onus of Sand”.

This music can easily be described like a mix of 70′s psychedelic rock, kiwi rock and experimental rock. Or like hearing Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Quicksilver Messenger Service do something together.

Pendulum is almost magical. It’s what you hear when dreamy and experimental psychedelic music gets mixed together. The combination with the lyrics is brilliant.

Drawn from Bees

Drawn from Bees is an indie/alternative band, based in Queensland, Australia. The members are Dan James (guitar/vocals), Stew Riddle (bass/vocals), Raven Jones (guitar/keys/vocals) and Matt Wedmaier (drums/vocals).

They are a four-piece of musicians that release a new and fresh batch of material every six months. And they are signed to a local Brisbane-based record label, Bonefinger Records, distributed via MGM Distribution.

The Boy and the Ocean was the debut EP, released September 2008. The next EP And the blind Shall Lead the Way came out in March 2009. The latest EP The Sky is Falling was released (ahead of schedule) in October 2009.

The sound of Drawn from Bees is the sound of a band with the crazy idea of releasing as much material on the shortest space of time.

They sounds like a mix of Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Brian Eno, Thomas Dolby and Davie Bowie. And the genre(s) can be qualified as modern art rock, some psychedelic, progressive rock and new wave.

This music is immense and can from time to time be intense (These Philistines), this is also where they have that typical sound of new wave from early the 80′s.

You can hear the mix of modern art rock and alternative in Cables in the Sky and Waiting for the End. A great mix, and the typical sound of Drawn from Bees.

Album recommendation : The Home Guard – ‘Forlorn Hope and Glory’

The typical sound of The Home Guard is unique and uplifting. And can be described as an indescribable mix of so many genres of music, so perfectly combined. Like; rock, progressive rock, Brit pop, folk, new wave and glam. This is what makes the The Home Guard “Homeguardish”..

The debut album A Head of Steam was a good album where they mainly sounded like Sparks, Elvis Costello, Roxy Music and Jethro Tull.

This album is a big step in the right direction from the first album, as the lyrics and songwriting skills has been improved. The same can definitely been said about the production, mixing and the quality of the music all over.

The intro has been inspired by the opening track, “Procession”, from Queen’s second album. The heartbeat sound followed by a progressive rock piece Year Zero, with some Jethro Tull influences, makes this to a good first impression of a follower album.

The next track, Sweating Blood is a typical indie rock piece (but still a song to take a notice of.) It got some good rhythms through the song and some synth beats that keeps it alive.

One For The Road show you a more happy Brit pop/rock piece of the Home Guard, the consistent bass through the song, combined with some heavily visits of a certain piano, makes this a strong track, even though the vocals aren’t among the best.

The next upbeat track is Soldier On, a great instrumental piece of work. With some great bass plays in the middle of the song, might make this the best mixed track on the album.

The last track; This is a classic and progressive ballade. Other People show you that the music to The Home Guard is more than just an average indie rock band. This is epic, and a genuine masterpiece.

The Chronicles of Israfel

The Chronicles of Israfel

This is epic! And one of the hidden treasures out there.

So, what is so incredible about this music? Basically; the musical skills are really good, especially the guitar work. And of course the best thing – the first album “Starborn, Tome 1″ are a concept album, something of the coolest thing you can hear in this world of music! And how they complete the whole idea of this concept album is fantastic! You will never get tired of listen to it.

Starborn, Tome 1 is about Israfel’s search for a new home and self discovery of his superior inner design.

The Chronicles of Israfel are a Montreal, Canada based metal/rock/progressive band, formed in 2007 by former guitar player of Pulse Ultra and bass player in Scars of Broadway, Dominic Cifarelli and Vincent Cifarelli, Americo Antonucci and Joey Bastone.
