Boy & Bear

Boy & Bear

Boy & Bear was formed in early 2009 by Jake Tarasenko (bass), Dave Hosking (lead vocals/guitar), Killian Gavin (vocals/guitars) and Tim Hart (drums/vocals.)

They’re based in Sydney, and are built up by the collaboration of three front men of separate bands. The combination of three songwriters has resulted in songs that reflect a variety of genres and personalities.

It’s a relative new band, and two singles has been released so far. “The Storm” and “Mexican Mavis” give you a great interpretation of 70’s folk and catchy folk rock. This music is rural, catchy, and proves that this is a band with a lot of potential.

They are currently working on the debut EP, due to be released later this year.

Oh Mercy

Oh Mercy, there’s just something about this music. It must be the combination of classical pop and soft folk pop that makes this music as good as it is.

Oh Mercy are Alexander Gow (vocals, guitar), Thomas Savage (piano, guitar, vocals), Eliza Lam (bass, vocals) and Rohan Sforcina (drums).

They were formed in 2006 in Melbourne, Victoria. And were one of the most discussed bands upon the inception of the current ‘Triple J Unearthed’ format, they were rewarded in 2007 with a slot at Australia’s biggest festival, the Big Day Out.

The debut EP “In the nude for Love” was released in 2009, followed by the debut album “Privileged Woes” the same year.

“Seemed like a Good Idea” is a uplifting and perfectly constructed pop piece of work. The gently vocals, soft rock guitar strings, with some influences from folk pop.

Sherlock’s Daughter

Sherlock’s Daughter

Sherlock’s Daughter is an alternative folk band from Sydney, Australia. They are Tanya Horo, William Russell, Liam Flanagan, Jonti Danilewitz and Tim Maybury.

They released their self-titled debut EP in late 2009, and have so far toured with School of Seven Bells and the Temper Trap. Now it’s their turn to take the world by storm.

“Sherlock’s Daughter” consists of five uplifting, folky and atmospheric tracks. And it’s like a mix of psychedelic folk, hippie folk, dreamy and experimental pop and indietronica.

This is something that makes this music well developed, and ahead of time. And somehow, a lighter (and less quirky) version of Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros.

Fictionist

Fictionist is a band from Salt Lake City, and are made up by Stuart Maxfield (lead vocals, guitar), Robbie Connolly (backing vocals, guitar), Jacob Jones (keys), Brandon Kitterman (backing vocals, guitar, toys), Spencer Harrison (backing vocals, bass) and Aaron Anderson (drums).

Fictionist was originally called Maxfield, after band leader/creator Stuart Maxfield. But changed the name to Good Morning Maxfield when they found another band with the same name.

The name Fictionist was born in the autumn of 2008, as the band changed their style to what Fictionist is today – a sparkling sound of epicness!

The debut album “Invisible Hand” was released in early 2009, followed by “Lasting Echo” in January of 2010.

This music is wonderful! It has a laid back rock style you rarely hear in these days. And it give you a very good feeling of peace.
They mix soft psychedelic, piano rock, art pop, and powerful, and a mixed pop historic interaction of 70’s pop/rock and that kind of rock you most likely will hear in about 5 years.

Still, there is just something about this music; it’s moody, emotional – without being sensitive, and, it’s somehow still a mystery.

Love is weird, and some know exactly how to write a song about it. This is the first part of a new “list series” of songs with a certain topic. This time; alternative love songs. Love is all you need?

Jukebox the Ghost – Hold It In
You are young, and you are in love with the cutest girl you know. But you can’t tell her, or anyone else about it.  Because “life is, oh my God, if I tell him, he’ll tell her, and then she will know I like her!” It’s a typical scenario.

The Home GuardI’m The World Best Kept Secret
There is someone out there for everyone. Whether they’ve been born, or if they are already dead. This is a nice little story about someone who is thinking about killing themselves, but try to kill everyone in the whole world instead, in hope to find the one.

The GadsdensI killed Love
This song is about a break up. And the big dilemma; are we right for each other, are you good enough for me? Am I a superstar?
..and can we work it out?

La Shark1958
Who haven’t felt in love with an actor, a superstar? Or an actress who have been dead for 50 years?
It’s the ideal person, isn’t it?

Filthy Boy – Biggest Fan Ever
Love and marriage. Man and woman. Role swap. Enough said.

SkyboxVarious Kitchen Utensils
If you don’t love anyone, you can always love yourself. Your body, and everything about it.
“Grrrrr .. we’ll shine forever oooh baabay!”

Skybox

This music is fun. Wonderfully quirky, and the kind of music you’ll remember for being more than original.

Skybox is a happy pop band from Chicago. Tim Ellis and Christian Fields is the core of the band, along with a rotation of other musicians to fill out the total lineup.

They released the debut album “Arco Iris” in 2006 and the second album “Morning after Cuts” was released in early 2010.

The sound of Skybox is a happy mix of The Feeling, Scissor Sisters and Muse (if they ever should go pop.)
The rhythm is like a happy and intensive hot summer day. And a musical interaction of jazzy pop with some nice contributions of cabaret (Cue Conversation), power pop, that make this music almost impossible to listen without raising a little smile.
