11 Q’s to : Matt Finney (Heinali and Matt Finney)

Heinali and Matt Finney is a (“bedroom” – ah, the power of internet!) project between Ukrainian composer Heinali and American Poet Matt Finney. Since 2009 the duo has recorded several EP’s, singles, and covers, including their latest ‘Ain’t No Night’ (August 2011) and the cover of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’. Matt Finney answered a couple of questions:..

1. What’ve you been up to today?

begging people to review our new album.

2. Describe your music in a haiku.

music is a pain

i write all the lyrics, dude

eat a bag of dicks

3. What makes you happy?

Audrey Hepburn, Mila Kunis, Emma Stone, autumn, winter, sleeping in,

art museums, nyquil, getting albums in the mail, driving around at

night, 90′s r&b, staying up late, staying up alone.

4. Who or what inspires you?

Raymond Carver, Kurt Cobain, Cormac McCarthy, Jackson Pollock, Batman:

The Animated Series, David Lynch movies, dreams, depression, disease,

death, women, war, whiskey.

5. What was the last song you listened to?

Ol’ Dirty Bastard- “Got Your Money”

6. What was the first song you learned to play?

“The Man Who Sold the World”- Nirvana cover of David Bowie. not sure

though. it might’ve just sounded like that.

7. Who would you like to record a song with?

Trent Reznor, Nadja, Nike7Up, Slow Head, Mark Kozelek, Jay Munly.

8. What’s your favourite flower?

i don’t think i have one.

9. Who would you say is the most underrated musician in the history?

don’t know about history but everyone should check out our friend Slow

Head. his album Night Glitters is one of the best to come out in a

long time.

10. If the world ends tomorrow, what would you do today?

try to license our new album as the soundtrack to the apocalypse.

11. Your top five albums:

1. Nirvana- In Utero

2. The Twilight Singers- Blackberry Belle

3. The Cure- Disintegration

4. The National- Boxer

5. Brand New- The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me
