Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue!

After spending two and a half minute consider whether I should make these round up posts a regular thing or not; I’ve decided to do it.

Click here for the first post, and come back (for a little while) for more updates in this post. Enjoy!

The first artist out is KC, who was brought to my attention by Theo from Steem. He was also the first one who reviewed KS’s record; see review (in Dutch) here.

Blackbird (The Beatles cover)

KC’s music is that kind of music you can listen to for the first time and still think it can sound familiar, and you’ve heard it so many times before. But it’s not. Think acoustic rock, fragile and melodic lyrics and vocals that suit the music perfectly; and you’ll have some of the elements that sum of this music.

Stream the music on KC’s website.

Various Cruelties‘ music have been around and fascinated me the last couple of weeks. Chemicals is a good song.

Various Cruelties have enough soul (and soul) and enigmatic style to just make you curious and hungry for soul-surf and anti-folk. The band have opened scenes for Villagers, Mumford & Sons and The Vaccines, and they just released their third single ‘If It Wasn’t For You’ (listen here) – so they’ve make themselves a way into a musical 2011. Watch out for these guys!

Watch also out for Orlando and the Wolves, further details about the launch will be announced later.

The more I listen to Toy Horses, the more I like them. The music video for ‘And It Was You’ (version 1 and 2) was uploaded on YouTube today and you can watch first version below!

Toy Horses‘s debut album will be released early 2011.

If It Wasn’t for the Money

Indie folk rock band Circus Envy released their first single from the upcoming album (due to be released mid 2011), stream ‘Regret’ below.

After the success of last years 52 part digital singles club, Oxford based DIY indie label Big Scary Monsters are at it again with their ’11 Collection.
The series offeres subscribers a new MP3 every Monday morning along with a free CD (from a lengthy list of choices) and an 11% discount on all purchases through their webstore over the next 12 months.
The 52 tracks will be provided by the best up and coming unsigned bands, exclusive new recordings from the label roster and the odd gem borrowed from their friends label rosters.
Last years series included contributions from the likes of Three Trapped Tigers, Pianos Become The Teeth, Bats, Stagecoach, The JCQ, Scholars, Kevin Devine and Cats In Paris, as well as new recordings from Tellison, Tall Ships, Hold Your Horse Is, Walter Schreifels, Tangled Hair, Grown Ups, Men and Dad Rocks! ahead of their full BSM releases, offering an exclusive sneak peak into the labels future plans.
Expect the same this year, with a few little surprises and hours worth of amazing music!

Subscribing usually costs £15 but is available for the discounted price of £13 until the end of January. Get involved at Big Scary Monsters.com

Singer and songwriter Benjamin Robinson are known for his fragile, melancholic and weirdly deep folk style, and the last single (one of the many new tracks from this guy) is no exception.

Hello Bear are one of those weird pop rock bands to look for in 2011. And that’s why you should take a listen to them.
