Interview: Low-Fi
Low-Fi are an Italian indie rock and electro band, made up by twin brothers Alessandro & Adriano and their friend Marco who complete the lineup.
They spent the last years playing in several compilations and crossed Italy and East-Europe performing tons of shows in clubs and festivals. And released their self-titled debut EP in 2010.
What’s the story of Low-Fi?
Alessandro : low-fi was born in our bedroom as coverband so many years ago, we have worked hard before finding the right line-up and the right inspiration.
Who does what in the band?
Alessandro : I sing and play bass/synth. I usually write all the music & lyrics by myself at home, then I give it to my twin brother Adriano (guitar) and Marco (drum). For me it’s very important to work alone at home to find the right direction and don’t waste time in the rehearsal room.
Currently our sound engineer Fabio Sorrentino is working on the electronics of our songs, and we are developing an Electro Set with him where we play our songs with Electro dance tunes
How would you describe your sound – what makes it special?
Alessandro : In our nation the favourite sport is to import a genre or a band sound, italianizing and pretending to be doing something ‘original’ to listeners’ears.
we think exacly the opposite, our music is the vehicle to get outisde this mud. It’s quite impossible to do something new in the music scene but our different music background help us to do something interesting..I love electronics and I’m gradually increasing the use of synths. Marco instead is a stoner lover, he’s rude on drum like a hammer. In this context the sound of my brother’s telecaster fits very well. Hardly we have found our balance.
What do music mean to you?
Alessandro : The only chance to be whatever you want!
You’ve toured a lot the last year; any favorite moments?
Alessandro : we played a lot around europe last year, my favourite moment is our first european gig in a theather in Budapest. We love that city!
What can you tell us about your debut EP?
Alessandro : it was recorded very quickly last jenuary, it gave us the opportunity to play everywhere. We are pround of it, but I think our new LP will describe us better.
Have there been any particular highlights in your music career so far?
Alessandro : Before realeasing our first EP We have took part in 2 compilation about Peppino Impastato(a political activist who opposed the Mafia that ordered his murder) & Syd Barrett with important artists from Italy and all over the world, In these years we have played with our favourite bands. We are glad of our path. But I think the best has yet to come…
What was your favorite release(s) in 2010?
Alessandro : That’s a tricky question. In the last year I have listened to 80′s music and I have discovered great bands like “The sounds” , they are from early 80′s but very up-to-date. An album from 2010 I think it’s great is The foals – Total Life Forever LP
What does 2011 has in store for you?
Alessandro : We are going to release our first LP in spring, it will contain 11 new tracks with some interesting featurings from the international scene.
Two weeks ago we have shooted a promotional video in Rome it will be available soon.
We want to tour, to play in different countries, to get to know new people and new stories.
That’s all!
