The Seventeenth Century:
The Seventeenth Century are a young 5 piece contemporary folk/rock band formed in Glasgow at the start of 2008 when they were studying music at Reid Kerr College and Glasgow University.
The band draws influences from an eclectic collection of genres, including Folk and Baroque music as well as post rock and experimental music and presents these genres in a contemporary setting.
The works of composers such as J.S Bach and Vivaldil as well as artists such as The Beach Boys, The Dirty Three, Sonic Youth, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and The Velvet Underground were interests the members had in common and influenced their sound. Vocal harmonies and intertwining melodies are components the band has had in its music from an early stage.
Notable tracks: Young Francis, MidOctober, Gregorian Calender.
Kitty the Lion:
Kitty the Lion began life as the singer-songwriter Anna Meldrum, reared at the seaside on a diet of folk and pop. In this cub stage, Anna toured the open mics and small venues of Glasgow with her acoustic guitar, and sensible shoes because Glasgow is a wet city and cats hate water.
In the next few months and years, Anna was lucky enough to play lots of exciting gigs, including an appearance at Hydro Connect Festival, and a string of support slots with Duke Special. All this gigging led to her to meet many like-minded musicians, so in 2009 the cub grew up into a fully fledged LION, when Joe Rattray on upright bass and Nick Roan on drums were added to the lineup.
With the addition of these two, and the later recruitment of Sorren Maclean on guitar and Callum Wiseman on mandolin, Kitty the Lion’s sound was upgraded from a meagre mewling to an upbeat, folk-tinged roar.
Notable tracks: Lion in the Bed, Spilt Ends, Gutted.
Three Blind Wolves:
Formerly Ross Clark & the Scarfs Go Missing, Three Blind Wolves are four dudes that hail from all the far flung corners of Glasgow.
They make music because they want to make the kids feel like dancing with their shoes off in a deep summer forest, where the leaves drip with golden sunshine onto hands and lips and shoulders and hips bumping together in time.
Notable tracks: Hotel, Emily Rose, Sex is for Losers.
Sebastian Dangerfield:
Sebastian Dangerfield is four dudes who met at a Tom Jones appreciation night in Buenos Aires. We all moved to Scotland to form the band because there wasn’t enough room to live in Wales.
They combine folk with indie-pop, making them a unique and desirable outfit, and still makes songs about Tom Jones.
Notable tracks: Morris, The Sycamore Tree.
