Ten questions to: Cosmo Jarvis

Cosmo Jarvis. He’s a songwriter, a filmmaker (-check out his films on YouTube) and a guy with extraordinary talents. And he first began to make films at home on VHS when he was barely twelve, which was the first chapter of his relationship to technology. He’s a genius.

1. What’ve you been up to today?

I have been at my grandmothers place in torquay filming part of a feature film I’m trying to make called ‘The Naughty Room’. She kindly sat in her room so I could use her house.

2. What makes you happy?

Film, Acting, Music, the bit before a woman’s breast in-between the shoulder and breast itself.

3. Who or what inspires you?

Good music, good movies, honesty, dreams Tom Waits and Wes anderson.

4. What was the first song you learned to play?

Kielbasa, Tenacious D on guitar.

5. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

My self-consciousness and many personality deficiencies.

6. Who would you like to record a song with?

Randy Newman or System of a down

7. If you had one day left to live, what would you do?

Murder Jedward, George Michael and fly a plane into radio one. I’d eat a large steak and smoke cigarettes all day. I’d have sex at least once depending on the time I had with a woman and transexual man. I’d watch Field of dreams with Kevin Costner and I’d cry and cry. I’d Say bye to my mum and dad and thank them in a way that I was sure would not make them sad i’d be leaving. I’d tell my brother some things that I need to say, and that i love him. i’d make one last film to put on youtube to say goodbye to everyone and I’d record my last song. I’d tell everyone that I’ve ever given a CD to that i’d like it if they could copy it and give it to a friend that might like it. I’d listen to ‘Liberation’, by Chicago. And then, alone in a field somewhere I’d take a camera, some lights and a huge P.A system and film myself listening to ‘Anywhere I lay my head’ by Tom Waits. I’d keep listening to crash test dummies and elliot smith till I snuffed it.

8. What was the last song you listened to?

Kelly Rowland, that Commander one.

9. Who would you say is the most underrated musician in the history?

Mad Dog Mcrea, based in devon. Irish folk, rock, pop, abstract band. Shit hot. The guy that covered ‘I can see clearly now’ in the movie, ANTZ.

10. What’s your biggest weakness?

I guess i have conditional impatience, I can’t wait for the world to do things which leads me to accomplish things I feel i need to accomplish without the time, tools or development required to make the piece as perfect as it could be; I tend to bodge sometimes but i’m growing out of it. That, and strange woman.

Watch his films on YouTube and listen to his music on MySpace. Go!
