Interview: Kris Searle

Kris Searle is a new (talented, creative and successful) kind of artist. Originally from Kent, UK, now living the dream in Los Angeles, US.

He run indie label Inspire U Records, released recently a new single “Warning Signs” ft Darnell and received a new nomination for LA music awards!

Who is Kris Searle?

I am a person who wants to express my creativity through the power of music

You’re living the dream in LA – how has your musical journey been since you first found out this was your way to go?

Firstly, the dream is a dream (which is constantly being strived for) and I’m living a life which I’m happy with but it’s been very far from the dream I often dream about. It’s a great life but I deal with the same stuff everybody else does and actually the pressure and stress of keeping up on the music scene really does take a lot of work and confidence.  The musical journey has been incredible.. I must say I didn’t know I was going to make this much happen in my life when I used to think about it in my home town in Kent, UK.

Through a lot of bad experiences I’ve met the right people (finally) that are in full support and are part of the team I’ve been trying to create since this started. I will say the weather helps!

What is the best piece of praise you have received so far?

Actually it was a comment from a man at a charity gig for Haiti. I finished the 3rd song and he came up to me and told me he was terminally ill, and that he doesn’t normally like my style of music but he listened intently and that it gave him hope and strength because he related with it.. it resonated within him. I don’t think I’ve felt like that at a gig since.

What subject do you write about most?

The subject I write about most are emotions within myself. How I react to an experience or situation. I write best when I’ve experienced something.

What has your music been compared to?

It’s been compared to a lot of music, it’s so diverse. My songwriting (collaborations) range from dance to hip hop to rock but my stuff normally comes out acoustic soul/brit rock and some people have said morrisey or this guy from the 80′s that I always forget… hmmmmwhat was hisname?

What can we expect from your forthcoming album “The Dawn of Momentum”?

This album is being written with an established songwriter and it’s a concept album about the universe, life, stars, sun, death with a little electro twist to the acoustic rock sound… that is what I’m trying to create and that is why I’ve introduced “Warning Signs” into my music catalog and now it’s been nominated at this years L.A Music Awards! That’s my 5th nomination and if I win it will be my 4th :)

What’s the story behind “Warning Signs”?

The story is about the times you see signs in your relationship which are warnings that your relationship is not working out OR that something within you is not right.. “The struggle between your inner self, your friends, your family when you love someone but something is not right. The expression you hide that you so want to show but are too scared of hurting someone you love. This is the new video and track from Kris Searle and Darnell Swallow that celebrates diversity in love in all its forms”

Where do you get your inspiration?

I get my inspiration from everything and everyone

What are you listening to at the moment?

I’m listening to Alanis Morrisettes album “Flavors of Entanglement” just incredible. She always gets the best producers for her work. Newton Faulkner is on my playlist and some of my artists were considering for my indie label…

What do you hope to accomplish within the next couple of years?

Just happiness in doing what I am happy doing. Showing people inspiration, confidence, movements, belief and the power of music in our lives in all areas and how it can really change this world.

..and what are your plans for the near future?

Well I’m about to do some washing and tidy my room… after celebrating our nomination this year for Dance/Electronic Artist of the Year!
