Azoora – Tension EP

Azoora – Tension EP

Azoora are an inventive musical duo consisting of Paul Loader (songwriter, vocals, acoustic guitar) and John Purcell (producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist). They’re signed to 23 Seconds, a Gothenburg based netlabel. They released their fifth EP “Tension” in July 2010.

“Tension” has a unique and pretty diverse musical style with elements from trip hop, psychedelic, garage punk,  progressive jazz, to rock and electronica – to name a few..

The vocals are laidback – and at the same time immense and mystical, and gives an overall interesting addition to the music.

The music has a systematic style that can sound messy from time to time, but has some sound effects that makes the music complete.

The opening track “The King” and “Tension’s” style is upbeat rocky and gives an absolute irresistible opening to the EP. They both give you the laidback vocals, that actually is a bit noisy and suit the musical ensemble of psychedelic, industrial western folk and electronic ambient theme perfectly.

“Predetermined” has a theme that easily pin this music to be a systematic electronic chaos. The sound effects are diverse,– the effects give both an old and new progressive feel.

“Premeditated” sound fresh and are a great instrumental track, and a good interlude of the EP. The tracks sound is tidy and has a rhythm that is easy to like with a number of sounds effects additions through the song.

The last tracks “Pretense Release” have an electronic- dub style, and introduce you to yet another chapter of the creativity to Azoora.
