Hungry Kids of Hungary
Hungry kids of Hungary are a four-piece indie/soul/power pop band based in Brisbane, Australia. They are Kane Mazlin (keys/vocals), Dean McGrath (guitar/vocals), Ryan Strathie (drums/percussion/vocals) and Ben Dalton (bass/guitar/vocals).
They have so far released two EP’s; Hungry kids of Hungary and Mega Mountain. The debut single “Scattered Diamonds” (released February 2009) was a feel-good hit the summer 2009, and a absolutely good debut.
The next single “Old Money” came out in July 2009, and the next single “Let You Down” is set to be released in October 2009.
They are currently working on the debut album, due for a 2010 release.
The mix of soul and power pop has often a great outcome. And Hungry kids of Hungary are no exception.
The opening track to “Mega Mountain”; Two Stones are one of the brillaint tracks. The track begins with a good jazz intro, followed by the mix of jazz, pop and soul. The vocals aren’t the best – but who cares. This still gives you a good first impression of HkoH.
Two other strong tracks are Good Times and Old Money. They both have a good and uplifting sound. And they both carry the influences of a great mix of 60′s soul and modern pop.
