The Velvetines

The Velvetines
The Velvetines are a Manchester based alternative/folk rock band, previously known as Youth Honey. They consist of Ricky Damiani (vocals, acoustic guitar), Chay Edwards (guitar), Pete Birds (bass), Jepp Berry (drums) and Lucy Dowling (backing vocals).
I can’t avoid thinking of The Zutons while listening to this music. They mix so many genres so good – like – punk, garage punk, rock, surf rock, folk and some harmonic acoustic tones.
You can hear this irreproachable composition in a garage punk/rock “Got what you came for” – this is how they sound almost like the Zutons.
Two other great songs are the more rock-a-like “Your last Mistake” and “7 Sins”. The mix of an almost heavy bass and acoustic/rock guitar riff make those songs sound creative and professional.
Babtism song is definitely one of the finest acoustic songs I’ve heard in a long time. It reminds me of one of the acoustic songs to Neil Young, and the wonderful mix of a male vocalist and a female back singer makes this song a true masterpiece.
